UPDATE: 27-Year-Old Killed in Newark Gunfire

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting.

According to police, at approximately 12:07 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10 Newark Police responded to a report of shots fired on Kent Street.

When officers arrived, they discovered Justin Bethea, 27, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

EMS transported Bethea to University Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead at 4:49 a.m.

Authorities said the investigation is active and ongoing.

There are no arrests reported.
