UPDATE: 17-Year-Old Charged with Pistol Whipping Woman in Newark's Ironbound Section

Police in Newark announced the arrest of a 17-year old Newark male juvenile who was wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in the 100 block of Ferry Sreet on Sunday.

“We are grateful to our law enforcement partners at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and East Newark and Kearny police departments for their assistance in quickly identifying and apprehending this suspect,” Director Ambrose said. “The investigation is continuing.”

According to police officials, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a woman was robbed by two males who exited a black 4-door Honda Civic, robbed her at gunpoint and fled in the vehicle.

The victim was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident according to officials.

East Newark and Harrison Police Departments identified and apprehended the juvenile suspect and a firearm involved in this incident was also recovered Newark Police officials said.

The juvenile faces charges of robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Several other suspects remain at-large.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
