UPDATE: 17-Year-Old Boy Shot Dead in Newark’s North Ward

Newark --- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a double shooting that resulted in the death of 17-year-old boy in Newark.

Police say Jabari Montplaisir, 17 of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene a gunfire erupted on a street in the city’s North Ward.

According to police , an 18-year-old, who was also shot, was transported to University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Police would not release his name at this time.

The shooting occurred at approximately 11:55 pm in the 700 block of Broadway, near Grafton Avenue.

Authorities say at this time, no arrests have been made.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
