UPDATE: 14-Year-Old Pedestrian Killed by Car on Garden State Parkway in Bergen County

A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Thursday morning when a juvenile pedestrian lost her life in a tragic collision on the Garden State Parkway (GSP).AdThe New Jersey State Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident that transpired at approximately 5:02 a.m. on the southbound lanes of the GSP, near milepost 171.1.

The incident began with a report of a struck pedestrian, prompting a swift response from state troopers to the scene.

Preliminary findings from the investigation reveal a sequence of events that led to this devastating tragedy.

According to law enforcement sources, an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on the Garden State Parkway.

Behind the unknown vehicle was a Chevrolet Tahoe making its way down the same route.

It was at milepost 171.1 that the course of events took a tragic turn.

At this point, a 14-year-old female juvenile entered the pathway of travel of the unknown vehicle, resulting in a collision that had dire consequences.

The young pedestrian was struck by the unknown vehicle, and the Chevrolet Tahoe trailing behind also collided with the pedestrian.

The driver of the unknown vehicle, however, did not stop and continued southbound on the GSP.

The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, upon realizing that something had been struck in the roadway, promptly contacted Troop “D” Bloomfield station to report the incident.

Tragically, despite immediate response and efforts, the juvenile pedestrian succumbed to her injuries, marking a devastating loss.

The circumstances surrounding this tragic incident remain under active investigation by the New Jersey State Police.

At this stage, there is limited information available regarding the unknown vehicle involved in the initial collision.
