Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy fire tearing from the roof of the building and an adult female who had escaped the two-story attached residential building with a 6-year-old.

Officials said a preliminary investigation appeared that the 11-year-old girl on the first level of the house where the fire started attempted to save an 8-month-old boy who was sleeping upstairs.

Officials said both children were found together deceased. It is not clear if the children were siblings.

The fire is under investigation.
