UPDATE: 10-Year Old Boy Among Two Dead Five Injured in Newark Shooting

Authorities are investigating a tragic shooting in Newark’s South Ward that claimed the lives of a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman and left three additional victims wounded.

According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II and Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr., police were called to the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue around 7:00 p.m. Saturday. 

Officers arrived to find multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
 

The 10-year-old boy and the 21-year-old woman were transported to University Hospital, where both were pronounced dead.
 

Three other victims — an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, and a 60-year-old man — were also taken to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
 

The investigation remains active and ongoing.


 Essex County Sheriff Amir Jones announced that a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered through the Essex County Crime Stoppers program for information that leads to an arrest.
