Union Prosecutor Takes Over Elizabeth Police Department’s Internal Affairs Function

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office has assumed oversight of the Elizabeth Police Department’s internal affairs functions, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Tuesday.

County officials say The City of Elizabeth has been notified that the Prosecutor’s Office’s oversight will include comprehensive daily review of all disciplinary investigations and findings in order to ensure that the daily operations of the Department’s Internal Affairs Unit are functioning properly.

Elizabeth City Spokeswoman Kelly Martins told RLS Media Solutions Broadcating the following:

“A complaint has been filed against Police Chief John Brennan by a police officer and this complaint warrants the attention of the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. The City of Elizabeth is cooperating with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office as they assume the oversight of the Internal Affairs Division.”

The Prosecutor’s Office did not comment on any specific internal affairs investigations.
