Union County School Wins 19th Annual New Jersey Consumer Bowl

Berkeley Heights New Jersey

Governor Livingston High School in Union County has won the 19th Annual New Jersey Consumer Bowl, becoming State Champions beating Irvington High School and Gateway High School during the final round held Monday at the Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton.

“The ultimate prize, obtaining the knowledge needed to avoid becoming victims of consumer fraud, is shared by all the high school students who competed in this year’s Consumer Bowl competition,” Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman said.  “I also want to congratulate the administrators and team teacher-advisors from the 80 participating schools for recognizing the importance of the Consumer Bowl and supporting this program.”   Intra-county competitions began in January, with the county champions facing off in regional competitions. Irvington High School represented Northern New Jersey and finished second. Gateway High School represented Southern New Jersey and finished third. Governor Livingston High School represented Central New Jersey.

Consumer Bowl topics included Ponzi schemes, charitable giving, telemarketing requirements, home improvements, identity theft and automotive issues.
