Union County Rape Suspect Surrenders to NYPD

A Woodbridge man has been accused of sexually assaulting a Rahway resident on Thursday, August 10, as reported by Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel and Rahway Police Director Nicholas G. Breiner.

Official said Mr. Elijah Finis, 18, faces charges of second-degree sexual assault and fourth-degree criminal trespass.

According to a statement from the Union County Prosecutor's Office, the incident unfolded on August 10, 2023, around 11:00 a.m., when Rahway Police Officers responded to a report of a suspicious event on Elizabeth Avenue.

The victim revealed that an unknown man unlawfully entered her home and sexually assaulted her.

County officials said Finis surrendered himself to the authorities at the NYPD's 120th Precinct in Staten Island on August 12. 

He is presently awaiting extradition to New Jersey.

The joint efforts of the Prosecutor's Office Special Victims Unit, Rahway Police Department, Linden Police Department, and New York City Police Department led to Finis' swift identification and apprehension.

The Garwood Police Department also assisted the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and Rahway Police Department in this case.
