An underground transformer appears to have caused a fire in front of a New Brunswick post office.

Shortly after 11 a.m. an explosion followed by smoke sent crews to Bayard and Kilpatrick Streets.

No injuries were immediately reported.

The county building, which houses the Middlesex County courthouses, the police department and the post office were all evacuated.
