Unattended Child Left Inside Lakewood Car Dies

A child left for an extended period of time inside a car in Lakewood this afternoon has died.

According to a statement released by Lakewood Township Mayor Meir Lichtenstein, at approximately 2 pm, emergency responders received a call reporting an unconscious child that was found by a neighbor in the teens block of Lewin Avenue who began to perform CPR on the 21-month-old child.

When police and emergency responses arrived at the scene they took over life-saving medical techniques but were unsuccessful in reviving the child according to Mayor Meir Lichtenstein.

”The parents of the deceased child are excellent parents. I visited them in the hospital and they are understatedly distraught that they lost their child Mayor Meir Lichtenstein said.

According to Mayor Lichtenstein, the child will be buried tonight in accordance to the Jewish tradition.

The parents have at least one other a child and the community are supporting the family the mayor said.

The investigation is active, ongoing, and in its early stages.
