Umbrellas Up: Cool Temperatures, Midweek Showers Arrive in Newark

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

As the week moves swiftly along, residents in Newark and across the North Jersey region are waking up to a chilly and breezy Wednesday morning, with changes in the weather pattern already underway.

At 4:30 a.m., it was a crisp 65 degrees at the intersection of Chancellor Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark’s South Ward.

The winds made it feel even cooler, reminding early commuters and students headed to the bus stop to grab their jackets before stepping out.

According to a forecast from the National Weather Service, a wave of showers will push into the area later today, bringing with it the possibility of isolated thunderstorms by mid-afternoon.

Rain is expected to arrive gradually, so carrying an umbrella is highly advised for those out and about.

Today’s Forecast:

Wednesday: A chance of showers throughout the morning, turning into likely rain and possible thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Skies will remain cloudy with a high near 70 degrees. Northeast winds around 11 mph will persist, with gusts up to 21 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%, though rainfall amounts should remain under a tenth of an inch, unless a thunderstorm occurs.

Wednesday Night: Showers and possible thunderstorms are expected to continue before 8 p.m., followed by spotty rain through the night. Skies will stay mostly cloudy with a low around 62 degrees.

Although temperatures may struggle to break out of the 60s today, brighter and drier conditions are expected to return later in the week.
