Umbrellas, Coats Needed for a Cold Start to Sunday in Newark

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

We’re waking up to a cold, damp start to the second half of the weekend across Newark and much of North Jersey. Good morning and welcome to Sunday.
If you’re heading out early for church or morning errands, make sure to bundle up and grab that umbrella — rain is expected through the early part of the morning.

Showers are expected between about 4:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., after which the rain should taper off, giving way to brighter skies later in the day.

Even with some sunshine, it will stay chilly.

Temperatures will climb into the mid-40s this afternoon, but brisk winds will make it feel colder.

Right now in downtown Newark, it’s 44 degrees and cold.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of rain before 7 a.m., followed by a chance of snow showers late this afternoon.

Patchy fog is possible early, with cloudy skies through mid-morning and gradual clearing later in the day.

The high will be near 46, with west winds between 7 and 17 miles per hour. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

For tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of snow showers before 7 p.m.

Skies will turn mostly clear, with lows around 31. Wind chills could dip into the low to mid-20s.

Make it a great day in New Jersey.
