Two-Year-Old Killed in Car Accident in Franklin Township

Somerset County officials have announced an ongoing investigation into a fatal motor vehicle crash.  

According to police, on February 20, at 8:46 a.m. the Franklin Township Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting that a two-year-old had been struck by a truck at a residence on Bennetts Lane.  

The initial investigation revealed that a 60-year-old Somerset man was backing his pick-up truck to leave the residence when the two-year-old was struck on the property.  Upon arrival, officers initiated life-saving measures until they were relieved by EMS personal.  

According to officials, the child was transported to a local area trauma center where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.   

The Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau and Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team are conducting an investigation into the factors that contributed to this incident.
