Two Women Killed in Newark Hit-and-Run; Driver Sought

The investigation into a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the lives of two women in Newark’s North Ward late Saturday night has been taken over by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Just before 11:45 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Park Avenue and Seventh Street following reports of two injured pedestrians.
 

Upon arrival, police officers found two women lying in the roadway suffering from severe injuries and immediately requested EMS to respond on an expedited basis. 

 

Both victims were transported to University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead a short time later.
 

Authorities secured the area and began searching for the vehicle involved. 

 

According to witnesses, the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision and remains at large.

 

The incident remains under active and ongoing investigation.


No arrests had been reported as of 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Anyone with information is urged to contact investigators.
