By: Richard L. Smith Newark Police officials are investigating a double shooting that left two women wounded in the city’s South Ward on Saturday night. Responding officers found the victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds — one struck in the leg and the other in the buttocks. Police taped off the neighborhood after locating shell casings at the scene and called in Newark’s Shooting Response Team to assist in the investigation. No arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting has not been released. Initial reports indicate that gunfire erupted just before 10:15 p.m. in the area of 233 Weequahic Avenue, about a block from Beth Israel Hospital.
