Emergency crews rushed to the New Jersey Turnpike in Newark Thursday night after a crash involving two tractor-trailers left a driver trapped inside one of the trucks.
The crash was reported on the southbound side near Exit 14 and mile marker 104.7 shortly after 9 p.m.
According to preliminary emergency reports, firefighters arriving at the scene encountered heavy entrapment involving the driver of one of the trucks and immediately began an extrication operation.
Crews successfully freed the trapped driver shortly before 9:30 p.m., and EMS transported two patients to University Hospital in Newark with injuries initially reported as non-life-threatening.
New Jersey State Police responded to the scene, and the circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
Motorists experienced delays in the area while emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
