Two Suspects Charged with Newark South Ward Murder of Irvington Man

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has announced an arrest in a violent Newark South Ward shooting that left an Irvington Township man dead and another victim injured in early May.

According to a statement released by Essex County authorities, two males were shot in the area of Maple Avenue in Newark at approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, May 6th.

Police say, one of the males was shot in the leg and was in stable condition while the other victim identified as Mr. Murad Harris, 40, of Irvington sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, May 7th at University Hospital.

Essex County authorities say Isaiah Kane and Tymeer Gumbs were charged with murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy and weapons offenses.

Officials say police arrested Kane on May 15th and Gumbs was taken into custody on May 28th.

The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing.
