Two Suspects Captured in Irvington for Firing Nearly a Dozen Shots on Avon Avenue in Newark

Police were engaged in a high-speed pursuit of suspects who fired multiple rounds of bullets in a section of Newark on Saturday evening.

According to police, at approximately 7:10 p.m, shooters produced weapons in the vicinity of 490 Avon Avenue and began to recklessly fire at males standing in the area.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found just under a dozen shell casings, but after searching the area, no victims were struck by bullets.

At approximately 10 p.m., officers canvassing the area found the suspects occupying a black Toyota Highlander and attempted to pull the driver over.

Police say the driver sped away and led them in a chase that began in the city's South Ward, Hillside, Maplewood then ended in Irvington where four suspects bailed from the vehicle near 15 Wagner Place.

Irvington Police found two suspects hiding nearby and held them for Newark authorities.
