Two Sought on Illegal Dumping Charges, Two Others Arrested in Newark

Irvington Township Newark

Police announced the arrest of Yahya S. Simmons, 39, and Joshua J. Soriano, 37, both of Irvington, for an incident of illegal dumping that occurred on July 30th.

According to authorities, at approximately 1:50 p.m., members of the Illegal Dumping Task Force responded to a residence on the 600-block of South 10th Street on a call of illegal dumping.

Officials say a city Code Enforcement Officer working in the area called police after observing four men unloading debris from a black pickup truck. The dumped debris included plastic construction garbage bags, white plastic buckets, pink insulation and wood debris.

According to authorities, two of the suspects fled on foot before police arrived, while the other two, Simmons and Soriano, were arrested on charges of Illegal Dumping and Illegal Transport of Solid Waste.

The vehicle used to transport the debris, a 2000 Ford Ranger, was towed and is subject to seizure by forfeiture.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
