Two Shots Fired Incidents Under Investigation by Newark Police

Newark Police officials are looking into two incidents where shooters fired shots in city neighborhoods on Thursday evening.

According to preliminary reports, gunfire erupted in the vicinity 12th and Fairmont avenues at approximately 9:35 p.m. where officers arrived and reportedly found a suspect running from the scene.

Police engaged in a brief foot pursuit of the unidentified male but lost sight of the suspect in the 100 block of 12th Avenue. Police say they found a weapon in the 100 block of Fairmont Avenue, but after searching the area for the suspect, they were not able to locate him.

Multiple shell casings at the shooting scene were marked off by police, but there were no known injuries according to reports.

In a separate shooting incident, Newark North Ward officers responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 52 Riverside Court shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Authorities say officers arrived to find evidence that a shooting occurred, but after they searched the area, there were no victims found. Police recovered shell casings and other evidence at the crime scene.

Both shootings remain under investigation.
