Two Shot, One Dead in Shooting near Rutgers Newark Campus

There is an active investigation underway into a shooting that killed one person and injured at a least one other near the Rutgers Newark Campus this evening.

EMS contacted Rutgers Police when a male victim approached them near the intersection of Central Avenue and Halsey Street injured at around 10 p.m..

The victim was bleeding from the back from an apparent gunshot wound according to reports. He was rushed to University Hospital where he was listed in serious condition.

A further investigation had cops locate one other person shot inside a house nearby. That victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police are looking for two Hispanic males who was last observed running from the area.

One of the suspects had a beard and is believed to be wearing a gray hoodie and blue jeans while the second suspect wore a brown jacket, tan Timberland boots, and was armed with a handgun.

Both men are approximately 5'9" tall and are around the ages of 20-25 years old.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are on the scene investigating.
