Two Police Officers Ambushed, Shot in Camden Overnight

There is an intense search underway for at least one suspect who is wanted for the ambush and shooting of two police officers in Camden overnight.

Camden County authorities are currently looking for a black male who fled the scene in a light colored vehicle after he fired shots at the officers while they waited inside their police vehicle at a traffic light in the vicinity of Broadway and Mount Vernon Street just before 9:30 p.m.

EMS transported the officers to an area hospital where doctors treated the officers who suffered non-life threatening arm and hand injuries according to Camden County investigators.

Authorities say at least one officer fired back at the suspect, but it is not clear if the suspect was hit but police believe that the vehicle has bullet holes due to shots fired encounter.

The preliminary motive is being reported as an ambush at this time.

The suspects remain at-large.
