Two People Airlifted After Serious Boat Accident in West Milford Lake

West Milford

The New Jersey State Police Marine Services Bureau is seeking the public's assistance with identifying the operator of a hit-and-run boat that injured four people on Monday, on Greenwood Lake in West Milford Township, Passaic County.

According to police, at approximately 8:36 p.m., an 18-foot Bayliner boat was struck at the stern (rear) by an unidentified vessel, possibly a ski boat, just north of Sportsmans Marina.

Based on the preliminary investigation, after striking the stern, the suspect vessel became airborne, traveling over the Bayliner.

At this time, investigators do not believe the suspect boat had an outboard motor.

Owner and operator, Edwin Lane, 72, of West Milford and his passenger, Robert Roon, 76, of Newfoundland were seriously injured during the crash. Passengers Mary Lane, 74, and Eileen Roon, 70, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but were able to render immediate aid to their husbands and navigate the boat back to dock.

Edwin Lane and Robert Roon were flown to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, where they remain in critical condition.

Mary Lane and Eileen Roon were taken by ambulance to the same hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
