Two Newark Men Arrested for Maintaining an Illegal Liquor Establishment

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Argeni Castro-Taveras, 36, and Jesus Vilanueva, 28, both of Newark, for maintaining an illegal liquor establishment today. 

Police say at approximately 12:20 a.m., detectives of the Newark Police Division’s Vice Crimes Task Force investigated reports of a large party in the basement of a residence at 33 Taylor Street.

Responding detectives heard loud music coming from the residence and, once inside, observed several patrons drinking at tables with Castro-Taveras and Villanueva at the bar.

Neither of the men could produce the appropriate paperwork proving they held a license to sell alcohol. Both Argeni Castro-Taveras and Jesus Villanueva were arrested. Each faces charges of maintaining an illegal liquor establishment, illegal possession of alcohol and illegal sale of alcohol.

Police confiscated $775.00 in illegal alcohol proceeds along with several bottles of liquor at the scene.
