Two Men Indicted in Franklin Township Murder Case

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Franklin Township Public Safety Director Quovella M. Maeweather revealed the indictments of two individuals connected to the murder of 46-year-old Franklin Township resident Artis Young.AdThe incident, which occurred on December 29, 2023, led to the arrest and indictment of Daniel Matthews, 44, of Brooklyn, New York, and Andrew Mumby, 47, of New Brunswick.

On April 25, the Somerset County Grand Jury charged both Matthews and Mumby with multiple severe offenses, including 1st Degree Murder, Felony Murder, and Robbery, among others related to conspiracy and hindering apprehension.

They are currently detained at Somerset County Jail.

The investigation began when Young was reported missing on December 30, 2023, by his family, who last saw him the previous day.

His body was discovered early the next morning in Brooklyn, prompting a joint investigation between the Franklin Township Police, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, and the New York Police Department.AdThe New York State Regional Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed the death as a homicide.

Andrew Mumby was apprehended without incident in New Brunswick on February 7, 2024.

Daniel Matthews was arrested on March 12, 2024, in Philadelphia. Both faced similar charges concerning the disturbing or desecrating of human remains and hindering prosecution.
