Burlington County authorities have arrested two men in connection with a dangerous public shootout that unfolded earlier this month in the East Burlington section of Burlington City.

According to a statement released by Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and City of Burlington Police Chief Ryan P. Elbertson, Shaun Causey, 38, and Jamaar White, 32, both residents of Burlington City, face multiple second-degree charges.

These include Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Certain Persons Not to Possess Weapons.

White was taken into custody on June 16 in Burlington City and is currently being held at the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing in Superior Court.

Causey was apprehended two days later in Greenville, North Carolina, and is awaiting extradition.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 9, when officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 600 block of Bordentown Road.

Investigators determined that the suspects exchanged multiple rounds while running along Bordentown and Columbus roads.

Neither man was directly struck, although White sustained a graze wound to his arm.

Authorities revealed that a two-year-old child was playing outside when the gunfire erupted.

One bullet entered a nearby home, and another struck a parked vehicle, underscoring the reckless nature of the confrontation.

“Neighborhoods throughout Burlington County are populated by law-abiding, hard-working citizens who are simply trying to enjoy life and raise their children in a safe environment,” Prosecutor Bradshaw stated.

“Those who treat public streets as shooting galleries to settle personal vendettas, as these two defendants chose to do, will be swiftly caught and fully punished for their reckless behavior.”

The investigation was led by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the City of Burlington Police Department, with support from the Burlington Township Police Department.
