Ocean County officials are investigating a violent crash that claimed the lives of two people on a motorcycle Sunday night.
Emergency crews were called to the westbound lanes of Route 37 near Central Avenue around 8 p.m. after reports of a serious collision.
Responders arrived to find two individuals who had been ejected from a motorcycle and lying on the roadway with severe injuries.
Authorities said both victims, whose identities have not yet been released, were pronounced dead a short time later.
Police shut down Route 37 at Central Avenue for several hours while investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Toms River Police Department worked at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
