Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit has arrested two Jersey City men on charges relating to falsified information they provided to an auto insurance company to receive compensation for medical treatment.

According to officials, Shelton Sutton, 36, and Kevin London, 36, are each charged with one count of Insurance Fraud, a crime of the third degree.

Officials say Sutton is additionally charged with one count of Conspiracy to Commit Insurance Fraud, a crime of the third degree. Sutton was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Monday, April 3, while London was arrested on Thursday, February 2.

The investigation revealed Sutton was involved in a motor vehicle collision in Jersey City on March 20, 2022, while driving a Mercedes Benz owned by London.

According to authorities, Sutton identified himself as London to law enforcement during the initial collision investigation.

Authorities say London and Sutton both sought medical treatment through a claim with Progressive Insurance.

In their claims, London identified himself as the driver, and Sutton reported being a passenger.

Investigators later determined Sutton was the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the collision.
