Two Injured in Turnpike Crash in Mount Laurel

New Jersey State Police are investigating a crash that injured two people on the New Jersey Turnpike early Friday morning.

State Police officials said that troopers responded at 12:15 a.m. to a motor vehicle crash on the Turnpike north near milepost 41 in Mount Laurel, Burlington County.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a Volkswagen Golf was traveling on the Turnpike north in the area of milepost 41 when it was involved in a crash with a BMW passenger car. 

According to police officials, the Volkswagen became disabled in the center lane with no lights. A that was driver passing by stopped on the right shoulder to assist the driver of the disabled vehicle. 

Police said that the good Samaritan was in the lane of travel assisting the driver of the disabled vehicle when a tractor-trailer struck the Volkswagen, which then struck both pedestrians. 

Both pedestrians sustained serious injuries and were transported by air to an area hospital. 

The crash remains under investigation, and there is no additional information available at this time.
