An active and ongoing investigation is underway into a shooting that injured two victims in Jersey City Thursday evening.

Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of Monticello and Garder avenues around 9:25 p.m., prompting a police investigation.

Several police units arrived and taped off the area after finding a person and a building struck by bullets.

Police say the victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center with serious injuries.

While canvassing the scene, police say a bullet entered the window of a home and shattered glass struck a person inside, causing non-life-threatening injuries.

While officers investigated at the scene, Jersey City Medical Center officials notified authorities that a second person entered the emergency department suffering gunshot wounds.

Police say the walk-in gunshot victim was shot at the Monticello Avenue crime scene.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the suspect remains at large after fleeing the scene.
