Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on March 9, 2020, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Berkeley Township Police were notified of a bicyclist being struck by a motor vehicle on Route 9 just south of Sylvan Lakes Boulevard in Berkeley Township.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit and the Berkeley Township Police revealed that Jeffrey Martin, 41, of Bayville was traveling southbound on Route 9 when his vehicle crossed the centerline of traffic and struck Frank Brooks, 31, of Beachwood, who was riding a bicycle on the shoulder of the northbound lane.
Official say both Mr. Martin and Mr. Brooks were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Ocean County Vehicular Homicide Unit, Berkeley Township Police Department, Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
