Two Atlantic City Men Indicted in Connection with 2017 Murder; One Remains At Large

An Atlantic County grand jury returned an indictment against two Atlantic City men on February 27th, in connection with the murder of Deshawn Dawkins that occurred on August 27, 2017, in Atlantic City, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.

Officials said Bashawn K. Whitted-Scott, 25, and Brian S. Richardson, 26, were indicted for the following:

* First-degree Felony Murder

* First-degree Armed Robbery

* Second-degree Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose

* Second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun

* Second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery

In addition, Brian S. Richardson, 26, was also indicted for second-degree Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Person.

Authorities said that on August 27, 2017, in the area of 8 S. Virginia Avenue, Dawkins was shot and killed during the robbery.

Officials said Whitted-Scott is in custody in the Atlantic County Justice Facility and Richardson is a fugitive and remains at large.

These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
