The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office is investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that left an adult male dead and two law enforcement officers wounded in Atlantic City.

According to information released by the Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA), the incident occurred on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, on North Florida Avenue in Atlantic City.
Authorities said two officers were struck by gunfire during the encounter. An adult male civilian also sustained fatal injuries.
Officials have not yet released details regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting, the identities of those involved, or the extent of the officers’ injuries.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
Under New Jersey law, the Attorney General’s Office is required to investigate deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement officers acting in their official capacity or while a person is in custody.
The investigation is being conducted by OPIA in accordance with a 2019 state law that mandates independent reviews of such incidents.
The law also requires that all cases involving a death during a law enforcement encounter be presented to a grand jury, which will determine whether the evidence supports criminal charges against any officer involved.

Additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
