Two Arrested, One At-Large in Jersey City Armed Robbery

Jersey City

The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two in connection to a robbery that took place in Jersey City on Saturday.

Officials said one additional suspect remains at large and an additional arrest was made of the victim in the robbery for multiple alleged assaults and possession of a firearm.

According to a statement released by Hudson County officials, there was an armed robbery in Jersey City near the border of Bayonne in which three suspects stole the victim's wallet, shoes and phone,” Sheriff Frank Schillari said.

“One of our officers quickly located the vehicle involved in the robbery and arrested the driver.

Through collaboration with the Bayonne Police Department, our SWAT team was able to locate the suspected handgun in the robbery and arrest an additional suspect.

There is still one suspect at large, so if anyone knows where Mr. Tyrone Baskin is, please call 201-915-1315 immediately.”

The robbery occurred in the Garfield Ave. area of the Jersey City and Bayonne border. The victim, while sitting in his vehicle, was pulled out at gunpoint and robbed of his wallet, phone and sneakers.

The suspect's vehicle, which was a white-colored Ford Fusion, was later spotted and stopped by a Hudson County Sheriff’s Officer, with the driver, Mr. Larry Johnson, a 36-year-old Newark resident as the only occupant.

Further investigation by the Sheriff’s Office put Mr. Johnson at the robbery scene.

Hudson County Sheriff's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team with assistance from Bayonne Police responded to a residence on 50th Street in Bayonne.

The residence was occupied by 40-year-old Orasha Wilkes, her daughter, and granddaughter. In the apartment, detectives were able to locate the suspected handgun used in the robbery.

Still at large and wanted by the Sheriff's Office in conjunction with this robbery is 50 years old Tyrone Baskin.

If anyone has any information on Tyrone Baskin’s whereabouts, contact 201-915-1315 or the confidential tip line 201-332-HCSO(4276).

Larry Johnson and Orasha Wilkes were both charged with robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a weapon, criminal restraint, theft and possession of the firearm. After processing, they were both transported to the Hudson County Correctional Center to await their hearings.

Detectives learned that Ms. Wilkes had set up the whole robbery incident with the other two suspects in order to get back at the victim and current boyfriend, Calvin Baskerville. This is due to an earlier altercation where Mr. Baskerville struck Ms. Wilkes with a handgun in the face and head. Ms. Wilkes stated to detectives that she robbed him with his own gun, which she was struck with the day before.

On Wednesday, August 5, detectives were able to locate Mr. Baskerville and he was charged with aggravated assault under domestic violence, possession of a firearm as well as having an open Bayonne warrant for aggravated assault and terroristic threats. Mr. Baskerville also has two open child support warrants, which he was processed for. After being processed he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Center.
