Two Arrested in Newark Drug Raid

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that two Newark women were arrested during an early morning raid at a Newark residence.

Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Narcotics Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, conducted an investigation into narcotics activity at 301 South Sixth Street.

This investigation led detectives to obtain a search warrant. During this morning’s search warrant execution, detectives recovered a .22 caliber handgun, a .30 caliber handgun , BB gun and various types of handgun ammunition.

Detectives also recovered quantities of Xanax, Ecstasy (known as Molly) and small amounts of cocaine and marijuana. Detectives also recovered narcotics packaging material and $402 in US currency.

Charged in connection with today’s raid are Virdia Beard, age 37, of Newark and Turqoise Williams, age 29, also of Newark.

Both women have been charged with Possession of CDS, Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS with the Intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a School, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon while committing a CDS offense.

Both suspects will be lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending arraignment, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly.
