Two Arrested in Newark Anti-Violence Operation

Police in Newark reports the arrest of Mr. Sylik Jackson, 26, and Mr. Raymeer Tarver, 20, both of Newark, as part of the Division’s ongoing anti-violence operations.

According to a statement released by police, acting on citizen complaints of drug activity in the area of 15th Avenue and South 18th Street, just after 7:30 p.m., detectives assigned to the Criminal Intell Unit observed Jackson with CDS marijuana in his possession.

Police say officers stopped Jackson then placed him under arrest. Authorities charged him with possession of marijuana.

According to police. at approximately 8:30 p.m., in the 100 block of Dewey Street, detectives arrested Tarver after they found him carrying a loaded .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine loaded with hollow point bullets.

Police charged Tarver with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of an extended magazine and possession of hollow point bullets.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
