Two-Alarm Fire Injures Firefighter in Newark

Fire officials in Newark are reporting that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a fire that broke out inside an apartment at 1018 South Orange Avenue today.

Officials say shortly after 6 a.m., firefighters responded to the two-story wood framed building near Smith Street.

The fire was located on the first and second floors and was upgraded to a second alarm at 6:19 a.m.

One fire captain was injured and was transported to University Hospital for treatment where he later returned to duty officials said.

According to officials, the fire was considered under control at 7:09 a.m. with the cause and origin of the fire under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.

No other injuries have been reported officials said.
