Truck Crashes into Harrison Fire Truck; Firefighter Injured

Hudson County authorities authorities are investigating a crash that involved a fire truck this afternoon in Harrison.

According to a statement released by police, The Harrison Fire Department responded to an ‘odor of gas’ call with their ladder truck at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the PSE&G property located on Frank E. Rogers Boulevard South.

Police say the fire truck stopped in the southbound lane with emergency lights flashing.

While clearing the scene and returning to the truck, a dump truck -with a partial load- was traveling southbound and struck the rear of the firetruck causing damage to both vehicles police said.

According to police, a Harrison firefighter was returning to his seat in the tiller when the collision occurred.

The firefighters was thrown from the truck at that time according to police.

EMS transported the firefighters to an area hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the dump truck claimed that he veered to the left when the brakes on the truck failed in an attempt to avoid the fire truck at the last moment.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Accident Investigation Unit was contacted and is assisting the Harrison Police Department with the investigation.
