Trespasser Fatally Struck by Train near Metro Park Station in Edison

A person struck and killed by a train near Edison station on Tuesday, prompted officials to shut down the tracks for an investigation.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Northeast Corridor train 3838, scheduled to arrive at Penn Station NY at 12:17 p.m., fatally struck a trespasser west of the Metropark rail station.

Officials have not released the person’s age or gender at this time.

According to authorities, no injuries were reported among the approximate 400 passengers and crew members on board the impacted train.

Police say that the Northeast Corridor rail service was briefly suspended in both directions between Metuchen and Rahway due to the incident. Tracks 2, 3, and 4 have just been reopened, and North East Corridor trains traveling between Trenton and Newark are currently subject up to 20-minute delays.

The New Jersey Transit Police Department is on scene leading the investigation.
