A Trenton police officer is recovering after being shot in the leg during an incident late Saturday night.

Authorities said the shooting happened just after 9:00 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue, near North Clinton and Seward avenues.

The officer was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.

The incident triggered a massive police presence in the neighborhood, with several blocks of Lincoln Avenue shut down as investigators worked into the night to gather evidence.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the investigation, which remains active as officials work to determine what led to the gunfire.
