Transformer Pole Collapse Causes Power Outage in Newark

Residents are advised to stay away from the area of South 10th Street from 16th Avenue to Springfield Avenue due to down electrical poles.

According to authorities, shortly after 11 p.m. last night, firefighters responded to the 400-block of South 10th Street following the collapse of a triplex transformer pole at the location, which is in front of Harriet Tubman Elementary School.

Firefighters determined that the transformer pole collapse caused an adjoining pole to collapse and resulted in downed wires and a fluid spill. PSEG was notified and the area has been cordoned off to safeguard pedestrians and motorists.

PSEG is handling the clean-up and restoration of power to the area of South 10th Street from 16th Avenue to Springfield Avenue is closed during repairs.

The current estimated time of clean up and restoration completion is 6 p.m. today.
