TRAFFIC ALERT: Several Events in Downtown Newark to Cause Heavy Traffic Conditions

Newark – Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose would like to alert the media and public to street closures, parking restrictions and prohibited items for Sen. Cory Booker’s Campaign Kickoff and Festival in Military Park Saturday, April 13 (tomorrow), which is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m.

Official say Senator Cory Booker is scheduled to speak at 1 p.m.

**Beginning at 6 a.m. the following streets around Military Park will be closed.**

• Park Place, between Raymond Boulevard and Center Street

• East Park Street, between Park Place and Mulberry Street

• Center Street, between Broad Street and Mulberry Street

• Rector Street, between McCarter Highway and Broad Street

Additionally, Broad Street will be temporarily closed between Central Avenue and Raymond Boulevard at 12 p.m.

There will be security checkpoints enter Military Park.

**The restrictions of what the public can bring into the festival exceed TSA standards, so please advise the public that following items are prohibited:**

• Aerosols

• Alcohol

• Ammunition

• Animals (with the exception of service dogs)

• Backpacks or luggage of any kind

• Balloons, balls and bicycles

• Banners, signs and placards

• Chairs and coolers

• Fireworks of any kind including sparklers

• Glass, thermal or metal containers

• Knives or any sharpened tools

• Laser lights and pointers

• Mace or pepper spray

• Packages of any kind

• Selfie sticks or tripods for cameras

• Umbrellas

Officials say there are several other events in the downtown area tomorrow in the downtown at the same time of the rally, including two shows at NJPAC, a women’s business expo at the Robert Treat, and a comics festival at the Hahne’s Building.
