The PATH Hoboken Terminal will shut down once again—this time over the Labor Day holiday weekend—as crews conduct urgent repairs to the track and interlocking system, officials said.
The station will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Thursday, August 28 through 5 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, resuming service just in time for the morning commute on Tuesday.
This marks the second major closure this year.
Earlier in February, the station was closed for 25 consecutive days to complete a $31 million overhaul, including replacing track switches and upgrading platform infrastructure.
Port Authority officials said mechanical failures with the newly installed interlocking system—critical for train routing—prompted the latest shutdown.
The Labor Day timing was chosen deliberately due to typically lighter ridership, allowing crews to safely install fabricated replacement parts and conduct necessary testing.
To mitigate service disruptions, the Port Authority has teamed up with NJ Transit and NY Waterway to offer multiple alternate travel options:
• $3 PATH ferry tickets cross-honored via New York Waterway, with expanded service to Midtown and the Battery Park area.
• Free shuttle buses connecting Hoboken to Newport and Exchange Place PATH stations.

• Additional NJ Transit service, including cross-honoring PATH fares on select trains and enhancements to bus route 126.
