Toms River Officer Struck by Suspect Fleeing in Vehicle During Undercover Drug Operation

A Toms River police officer suffered non-fatal injuries during an undercover operation in Lakewood on Tuesday evening.

According to a statement released by Toms River Police officials during an undercover narcotics investigation that occurred in the 1300 block of River Avenue, officers were approaching the subject in his vehicle when he accelerated and struck an officer sending him onto the hood of the car and into the windshield.

Officials say the injured officer was taken to Community Medical Center and treated for his injuries.

The suspect was apprehended and will be charged accordingly according to officials.

The identity of the suspect will be released later this morning.
