Keyport Toms River

A 28-year-old Toms River man was arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed three adjoining buildings in Keyport.

Fire crews responded to fire in a commercial building located at 43 W. Front Street last Friday sometime around 4 p.m.

The fire displaced four families and three businesses and left as many as eight firefighters and one citizen injured.

Although no details were immediately provided as to cause of the fire, authorities identified the Toms River man as Andrew Mayer, 28, who was arrested and charged with working without a permit, working without a license and driving without a license.

According to authorities, he has since been released on his own recognizance.

It remains unclear if Mayer caused the fire.
