Toms River Apartment Complex Residents Evacuated after Fire Ignites Inside Apartment

Fire officials in Toms River are investigating a fire that ignited inside an apartment complex early Thursday morning.

Officials said in a statement at approximately 6:55 AM on, Toms River Police were notified of an active fire at the Highland Plaza Apartment Complex in Toms River.

Official say several Tom River Police units, Toms River detectives, Toms River Fire Companies, as well as The Bureau of Fire Prevention were on scene at 91 Highland Parkway.

According to officials, at approximately 100 residents were evacuated and Toms River Schools sent buses for transportation of evacuated residents and they were taken to a temporary shelter at High School South.

Crews swiftly extinguished the blaze, but some residents suffered minor smoke inhalation at the scene according to fire officials.

The investigation into what caused the blaze remains active and ongoing at this time.
