Three Women, One Man Arrested for Possessing Loaded Weapon in Newark; Weapon Stolen from North Carolina

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Idireyah Washington, 24, and Samid Strothers, 19, both of Newark, Iyannah Henderson, 23, of East Orange, and Carisma A. Sorey, 24, of Edison, for possessioning a loaded weapon last night.

According to police at approximately 11:25 p.m., members of Newark Police Division’s Special Enforcement Bureau observed a woman drop a handgun while exiting a white 2017 Nissan Altima at the Exxon Station located at 1 Elizabeth Avenue.

The vehicle was occupied by Washington, Strothers, Henderson and Sorey police said.

Officers secured the loaded .40 caliber firearm and the four suspects were taken into custody without further incident.

Each suspect is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Authorities said that they all face the additional charges of receiving stolen property after it was determined that the gun was reported stolen in Hope Mills, North Carolina.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
