Three Struck by Gunfire in Newark's South Ward; Gunmen Fire Nearly a Dozen Rounds of Bullets

Police in Newark are on the search for suspects responsible for firing nearly a dozen bullets in a South Ward community that struck three victims on Tuesday evening.

According to authorities, residents arriving from work took cover inside homes in the vicinity of Clinton Place and Hawthorne Avenue after gunmen arrived in the area at approximately 8:07 p.m. and began to fire at several males standing on the corner repeatedly.

Police officers arrived at the scene found a male struck by gunfire at that location.

While EMS prepared the victim for transport to University Hospital for treatment, offcials at Beth Israel Medical Center contacted police after two victims arrived at the emergency room suffering bullet wounds.

The extent of the victims' injuries have not been reported as life-threatening at this time.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been reported.
