Three Newark Firefighters Injured in Newark Building Fire

Newark officials are reporting that three Newark Firefighters were injured while working to extinguish a fire at 358 South Orange Avenue Tuesday.

According to a statement released by officials, shortly before 3:30 p.m. firefighters responded to an alarm at a four-story mixed-use building.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames and smoke emanating from the second, third and fourth floors.

Officials say the fire also spread to an adjacent building at 360 South Orange Avenue.

One fire captain and one firefighter were evaluated at the scene for elevated heart rates and blood pressure issues and another firefighter was evaluated for an injury to his elbow.

All firefighters were transported to University Hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported officials said.

Three families, including five adults and six children, were relocated.

The fire was considered under control at 4:18 p.m. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by members of the Newark Arson Unit.
